The "Boom Show" is a FREE, all day and night, music marathon concert showcasing many of the Bay Area's finest musicians and songwriters. All of the performers have been invited to come and perform at the Boom Show from within the vibrant San Francisco open mic scene. All of the 15 different performers or bands have demonstrated not only great songwriting, but also great stage presence and poise under pressure.
Jeff Belbey, Boom Show's organizer, is a guitar and mandolin player who has
been playing the open mics around San Francisco for the past five years. He's
been frustrated by the fact that he and his fellow musicians are often performing
only to a room full of other performers at the open mics. "It's very difficult
to get people, friends, family to come out to an open mic on a week night to
hear you play only one or two songs, especially when you're never really sure
what time you're going to be playing. Sometime between 8pm and 1am. Well, my
non-musician friends just ain't gonna show!"
His idea is simple. Provide a great venue, on a Saturday, where a wide variety
of some of the best musicians from various Bay Area open mics can stretch out
for more than just a couple songs in front of a larger audience. Starting at
2pm and going til 2am with performers appearing at set times. Boom Show is the
first show of its kind and he hopes will be the first of many.
He is also quick to point out a couple of things that the Boom Show is not:
The music is original, spanning a wide variety of styles, from alternative acoustic
rock to blues to reggea. When given the chance to perform more than just a few
songs, these performers are inspired, and their talents come to the fore. This
is music without flash, songs from real life, performed close to the audience.
This all adds up to a truly memorable musical happening. These are musicians
that are ready to take their show to the next level at any time. Boom Show gives
them that opportunity.
The Canvas Gallery is a unique venue combining the sophistication of an art
gallery with the liveliness of a neighborhood cafe and lounge. The Canvas features
exceptional art by local emerging artists. The 4,000 square foot space is anchored
by a central bar under a dramatic 30-foot skylight. The industrial metal and
architectural concrete features of The Canvas are balanced by bistro style tables
inter-mixed with a eclectic grouping of refurbished 60's and 70's vintage furniture.
